Becky

I’ve been tutoring students at various levels in math, economics, and basic statistics for about 17 years as a private tutor. A majority of my students are taking college classes, but I’ve also tutored a number of high school and elementary school students in recent years.

I have a PhD in economics and taught economics both as a TA and an instructor. I am currently teaching Business/Econ Statistics at College of the Canyons, and have previous taught Microeconomic Principles there. I helped many students one-on-one as a TA and tutor during graduate school at UCLA. Prior to that, I tutored elementary school students in reading for one year and tutored ESL students in Oakland Chinatown for two years during college. I’m also a mom to an elementary school child, and an active in volunteering at her school.

I love to help people understand concepts they didn’t get before. I prefer to tutor one-on-one or in small groups so that I can get to know the students and try to find what method of teaching works best with them (e. g., graphical vs. numerical for math concepts). It’s a wonderful feeling of accomplishment when the person I am tutoring finally gets a subject and is able to explain it back to me. I also get a feeling of pride in the student when they learn new concepts.
